Beware... the giver of crashes is back. Ollie Woods, 17-year old Briton and long time Woods Racing manager, is to race for his own team this year in GP2, alongside Mark "Wixy" Wicks. Could the ex-Roaldo driver actually stay on the road this year? We spoke to him:
"Well, to be honest I've still not had driving lessons, because our licencing organisation in England is pretty bad. However, I've been hammering away at my faithful Saitek R440 that's been a fixture of my desk since July 2003, and who knows? I'd like to think I can improve, now that I'm older." Ollie famously bet with the RDs that he would receive a 2 litre bottle of Pepsi should he qualify within 4 seconds of the leader, and he hopes to achieve that; he said, "I'm sure they've forgotten, but I haven't! I'd love to be within 4 seconds by the time we get to the end of the season, but everyone's improved so much since I last drove in anger."
The Woods Racing team celebrate their 5th full year of motorsport this season, and Woods is hopeful: "Well, I've had the pleasure of Mark driving for me since 2005/6, and I can safely say he is one of the best and most committed drivers I've seen. For example, he's just taken the hunk of metal poo that is the WR in F1VWC to 6th on the grid in Melbourne, and if we had a better car I think he'd be in the running for wins. He's good, and I know he can develop even further. As for me - we'll see. I'm really proud of the car though, it took bloody ages but it's been worth it."
See for yourself:
So there you have it. A nice car - "the best we've done. Period." according to Woodsy - and a decent lineup. Can Woods return in style to fulltime racing? Let's hope so.
